The Need for Ethnic Marrow Donors is Urgent

Asian Ethnicity Matters: Because any patient's best possibility of finding a match is within their own ethnic group this is a special plea to anyone of full minority descent or anyone who is of mixed ethniciites. Your help is urgently needed.

Please also spread the word by email, on your blog or by word of mouth so that more minorities can be made aware of the fact that less then 30% of minority patients ever find a donor match. This compares to that 80% of caucasians are able to locate a donor match.

If you are from one of the following communities, you are urgently needed in the national registry to be a bone marrow donor, stem cell or cord blood donor:

If you are of Caucasian descent the likelihood of your finding a marrow match is 80%

If you are of minority descent your likelhood of finding a match (all minorities as a group) is less then 30%.

If you are of a smaller ethnic group like Tami being Japanese, your odds are even lower then that.
