How to Schedule A Donor Drive
Yes you can help! If you know a large group of people you can schedule your own donor drive.
In the Bay Area:
Step 1
Select a location for your drive
The AADP can conduct drives in several types of locations:
~ Churches/Places of Worship
~ Colleges/Universities/Schools
~ Companies/Organizations/Workplaces
~ Festivals/Community Events
~ Any large gathering of people
~ Community Centers
anywhere that you feel would be a good central location.
Step 2
Call the AADP (Asian American Donor Program)
Toll Free: 1-800-59-DONOR
510-568-3700
and they will get a staff member to help you plan your drive, print out flyers and posters, and conduct the drive on the day itself.
Step 3
Choose a date for your drive. AADP can get a drive together in as little as two days, however we do ask for at least 2-3 weeks lead time for planning if a date has not already been set.
Step 4
Publicity - Drives are often successful because potential donors are aware and pre-educated about registering to be a donor.
-
Use your network of friends, colleagues and family members to spread the word.
- I can't stress this enough. Use the Internet!
-
If you know an avid blogger ask them to blog about your event for you as soon as possible, a couple of days before the drive itself and on the day of.
- Ask around and find out if someone you know, knows someone who is a public figure and has a large audience. Whether they are on tv, one of the most followed Twitterers or have thousands of friends on Facebook ask for their help publicizing your drive.
Step 5
Volunteers - Volunteers aren't necessary but often help make a drive successful! At almost every drive the AADP has registered over 100 donors, it was through the help of volunteers. When people say "Let me know if there's anything I can to do to help" start a list. Once you set your drive date contact those people to see if they would be available to help the day of.
